Here is what the ocean does for me (aside from look beautiful):
The beach is the end of civilization. All of man’s accomplishments vanish into the infinite vastness of nature.
You can build a sand castle all afternoon and watch the waves wash it away in minutes. Then look up to the skyline in the distance and wonder if it is any more permanent.
The ocean is an invitation to leave behind all the pressing concerns of day to day life, and enter a vast inner world of connection with something much larger than ourselves.
The ocean is a reminder that the things that we obsess over, stress over, and feel anxious about are not as big and scary as they seem.
The ocean keeps track of passing of time. With each wave, and each surge of the tide, we can feel the minutes, hours and days passing by.
It reminds us that just as we are small in space, we are short of time. If we are to make a difference, and live a life of meaning, then the time to start is now.
